Due to their nature, some sample liquids may adhere or buildup on the prism of the instrument. Since the ultrasonic pulses on and off at regular intervals, it helps protect the prism surface from sample buildup. This is our concept of `preventing` sample buildup in advance, avoiding future issues! If there is no buildup prevention measures being taken, and cleaning is done only after the buildup is discovered, it may be too late. There is a risk that the concentration of the product already flowing through the line will not be properly controlled, and a lot error will be overlooked. The US-α provides safer and more secure quality control procedure when used in combination with an in-line refractometer.

Various types of samples tend to cause build up, such as oily films, compounds, and sticky liquids. Film-like buildup can be caused by oils from coffee extract, metalworking cutting oils, cleaning solutions, and even from some acids contained in grape or citrus juices. There also sticky-like buildup that occurs bit by bit from substances such as glue and other adhesives used by paper manufactureres. In all of these cases, comparing sample buildup rates both with and without the US-α installed, it has been demonstrated that the US-α has an anti-adhesion effect to prevent or prolong the rate at which sample buildup occurs.
